WHATS NEW AND IN OUR INBOX

FEU FOLLET – A Light Underground (ft. Vlimmer) Single
80’s synthy stuff that starts off like a Pet Shop Boys track but definitely has elements of The Cure in the vocal and musically is on par with The Weeknd. The vocals get a little monotone at times and could benefit from more reaching to high notes like it does around 2 minutes into the song. Cool 70’s goth elements blend seamlessly with modern sensibilities.

DUTCH TULIPS – Tell Me Your Codes Single
A great 90’s alt sounding rocker in the vein of The Hives meets Superdrag. Very slick production and super catchy “do-doo’s” help this stick in your head. It definitely has influence from Fountains Of Wayne, Weezer but you can hear the 70’s Ramones and NY Dolls influence as well. A catchy track!

NOVA FIENDS – Witching Eye Single
Holy Lou Reed! It’s like they found a b-side never released before or this guy really practices at his Lou Reed impression. In some ways he also reminds me of Gordon Gano of the Violent Femmes if he was singing about evil shit. The track has vocals that sometime are nowhere near the key of the song but if you love Reed or Dylan’s voice this will be fine and you might even appreciate the fact that it’s far from perfect.  The single is coupled with a Dion Dimucci cover of “Daddy Rolling in Your Arms” and goddamn am I listening to Lou Reed or did they somehow conjure up a possession?

TROJAN WARFARE – Chained To The Cross Single
Teenager Troy Donahue of the North Jersey band Rockstar Racecar is back with a much more metal rock band titled Trojan Warfare and it’s really fun. The vocals have improved from his former project and the music although a little cliché is great, this is going to go over like gangbusters at every rock club in NJ. Some really fun solos are added by Ross The Boss of Manowar and The Dictators. It’s great to hear an artist mature before our ears.

THE SORELS – Spring Break Single
This is so fun! Punky and poppy in the vein of 90’s pop punk like The Muffs but with a cuter vocal kind of like Discount or That Dog. The video is great if you loved those old Hanna Barbara cartoons. Also feels like a nod to the Go-Go’s “Vacation” and that’s all you needed to say to get me interested!

THRIVE-DRU – Flat Earth (Clown Core)
I was just thinking there is such a shortage of Clown Core music in the world, thank Satan for this. This video and single is interesting to say the least, I feel like this is someone who has let the quarantine really get to them.  It’s equal parts Primus, metal and circus music. You really can’t go wrong when you combine those things.

PETER IS DEAD - The Secret Tape EP
This sounds like it was dug up from a 30 year old cassette tape. The music is jangly indie rock with some heavy hitting drums but the degraded tape sound and hiss makes it hard to concentrate on anything but the fact that this sounds like a practice space recording. It proudly is recorded on a Tascam 4 track and although the hiss and flattening of the drum set is a deterrent the fuzz of the vocals and the guitars brings a familiar nostalgia to any guitarist who grew up recording into one of those little Tascams. My only issue is in the digital age music already is shrill with how mp3s reduce quality, would love to hear a real studio recording from Peter Is Dead.
