What they say they sound like: “I pictured the movie Saw or some kind of challenge when listening to ‘Spit’,'' shares CARR. “So I wanted the music video to be Saw meets Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. I feel like those two movies make up my whole personality.”
What we think they sound like: Carr's new single "Spit" is a fresh-faced diverting amalgamation of pop and alt-indie genres - like Taylor Swift meeting up with Phoebe Bridgers to talk about relationships and the meaning of life. Carly McClellan's raspy raw vocals float effortlessly above the body of the song like a feather over top an ocean wave. "This is my love song for you," McClellan offers with what could be misconstrued as overbearing devotion to someone she deems worthy - great tune with the kind of chorus that gets stuck in your head.

Band: Dana Why

What they say they sound like: "Encompassing the loss of control of your life and the painstaking journey to building yourself back up again, the honest number captures the overarching theme of the album, delving into a tumultuous time in the rising musician’s life."
What we think they sound like: Dana Why writes an insane mix of Indie Pop and Indie Rock that has ADHD. It jumps around stylistically all within the same song as wells as texturally. It has this vibrant quality to it and just feels huge for an indie artist, like how is this guy not something everyone knows about. It's like Post Malone meets Weezer. So interesting how complex every track sounds, it's like song structure is broken into pieces. A+ from me.

Band: Havemeyer

What they say they sound like: Havemeyer's debut record "Slacker" takes the listener there in the blink of an eye. Surprisingly timeless songs, its themes and structures no doubt the product of biographically and musically seasoned songwriters, but its coordinates set long ago.
What we think they sound like: With shoegazey indie rock vibes and jangly 5 note guitar lines, "Moonlight" is a lighthearted track that has a tinge of surf rock undercurrents. The song is easy to listen to, but only has one direction, calmly leading the listener to the end of the tune without veering off in any kind of direction. This makes for a good addition to a road trip playlist, but I wouldn't put it at the top.

Band: Beauty Pill

What they say they sound like: Punk in spirit and mind, if not in sound. A work of inference.
What we think they sound like: Beauty Pill's "Fugue State Companion" is a hazy indie rock gem. Chad Clark's intimate upfront unveiled vocals make me feel like he's letting me in on a secret. I absolutely love the synesthetic guitar sounds that pan from left to right creating an immersive atmosphere. An absolute gem of a tune.

Band: Topsy Turvy's

What they say they sound like: Its influences range from classic melodic hardcore from the 90s to modern indie punk stuff, with a lot of melodies with emo vibes and tons of energy.
What we think they sound like: Topsy Turvy's "You Don't Know" is an energetic harmony driven indie pop punk track I would include on my running playlist. It's a dynamic and snappy get off the sofa and do something kind of tune. I'm a fan of the steady drum fills and driving guitars - and the production has a pleasantly crisp vibe.

Band: Glow & The Dark

What they say they sound like: “This EP is about the people, places, and things that become holy in your world when you’re in a relationship, and what happens to them when the relationship comes to an end. I wrote these songs in a journal on a long tour trying to heal from a breakup as well as the passing of a friend. When I got home, I had dozens of pages of lyrics. I started writing music and melodies to the words, and songs just started pouring out. I had never written in this way before. It was so exciting when I realized it was working!”
What we think they sound like: Glow & the Dark's "The W" is dark alternative emo track that has a mellow Blink 182 vibe. There are moments in the song that reel me in, particulary when the music drops out for a moment and AJ Peacox's sincere heart felt emotional vocals are upfront and center. The track is deeper than what the instrumentation fools you into thinking. I like that you can hear the lyrics clearly and they made me sad - I can relate to them. Great tune.
