What the band says they sound like: When asked about the inspiration behind the angsty song Bea shared, “I thought I loved someone, but it turned out I am a lonely bitch after all.” The New Jersey-born, LA-based singer has reclaimed her independence and is stepping into her authentic self, reemerging with an edgy, alternative sound bound to excite fans.
What we say they sound like: It kind of starts out with a very 90's vibe as if it's almost sampling a piece of that Incubus hit, as rhythmically it's pretty close. Then it ascends into something much better a mix of Indie and Alt Rock influences but with a chorus as pop as they come. We can hear the NJ roots in this and that is perhaps what makes it stand apart from other contemporaries trying the same style.

Band Name: Better Strangers

What the band says they sound like: Better Strangers is an intersectional experience that blurs lines and disregards categories. Its members hail from different sides of the world, as its music draws from the various corners of human creation in a unique synthesis of genres.
What we say they sound like: This has a very 90's alt rock skew to it and feels like it possibly started as riffing on a Tool vibe but with a better groove to it. The video the band has to accompany the song is actually a very exciting thing, where as you can rotate the 360 degree camera to enjoy any member of the bands performance for the duration of your viewing. It's hard to pin the band down exactly because usually something like this isn't my thing but they take a lot of cool elements from bands like Deftones, Alice In Chains, and Stone Temple Pilots and combine it with a more mellow vocal approach during the verses but kick it into another gear during the chorus to give that overly 90's feel. If you like any of the bands mentioned you are going to find something to like about this.

Band Name: Luxury Deathtrap

What the band says they sound like: With an aural DNA of alternative, shoegaze, and rock, “Roam In My Head” taps into subconscious patterns, where songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist Nicholas McGowan pulls back the curtain on his own personal growth as a person. For Luxury Deathtrap, the evolution of its members is as front-and-center
as its evolution as a collective creative unit.
What we say they sound like: It's interesting to me when a song has a really great groovy verse but then kicks into a very typical chorus. This track is along the lines of Incubus meets Alice In Chains and feels a lot like the writing style of someone inspired by the late 90's and early 2000's. It's great production and it's that big rock sound that in general feels dated a little bit. It's so weird that this blog is mostly indie rock but today for like 3 submissions in a row it feels like all these bands would put on one hell of great live show on the same bill.

What the band says they sound like: CUT CITY is throwing away all sense of decency and dignity and hereby invite you to invest 7 minutes of your life you won't get back even if time-travel will be a thing in the future. One would think that with the TAPE DAYS LP kind of fresh out there that CUT CITY could kick back by the pool at their band mansion but since neither the time or that place exist in real life they decided to throw this digital 7” out there instead.
What we say they sound like: This sounds like good 80's punk rock like Decendents or something in that vein. It has a vintage feel and jangle that will please anyone who is into good indie stuff of the last 40 years. To me this sets itself apart from a lot of todays submissions because it takes the coolness of the underground scene. Like track 2 "Broken Dome" could pass for Bob Mould singing a Husker Du B-side from the 80's and nobody would bat an eyelash. This band knows what they are and they do it in amazing fashion.

Band Name: Jenny O.

What the band says they sound like: The phrase “You Are Loved Eternally” was hand-painted on an old mirror frame in my friend’s grandfather’s cabin. Weeks after I visited in 2020, the cabin and everything it contained burned up in the Sequoia Complex Fire along with 10% of the world’s giant sequoias. I imagine that mirror reflecting a room of flames before it too was consumed- the 1950’s furniture, local nature books, even the iron wood stove melted. At that time someone I love deeply was in trouble, in depressive peril. I wrote this song for them, for me, for everyone I know and don’t know. We get lost and fall disconnected from the warm glow of human connectivity, loving awareness, the web of life..
What we say they sound like: This is a very interesting mix of influences to create a pop song. It has elements of world music and folk from like Paul Simon and Joan Baez to little bits and pieces that are like Vampire Weekend and The Sundays. It's like when just a lover of music has taken everything in their soul and put it into song it makes it hard to describe in any other words than good. This is good music and a good song. At moments it's simplicity also has a Nico-ish feel. Creates a vibe all it's own and it's wonderful.
