WHAT'S BEEN IN OUR INBOX! LONDON PLANE, ANARBOR, FENIXDION, CROZET, ERIC HILTON, EDNA

Well it's that time of year where everyone gets so busy that they neglect their duties because summer is coming. What we thought we would do to catch up and let you know about some of the cool stuff we've heard is a quick little form we filled out for things you should be listening to!

BAND: LONDON PLANE

BloodMakesNoise Rating:  8.5/10

Genre: Indie Rock, Indie Pop, elements of shoegaze

What the band says they sound like: Bauhaus, XTC,  Shriekback, Gary Numan, Wire, Soft Kill, Interpol, Preoccupations, Protomartyr, Best Coast, Fazerdaze, Alvvays, The Primitives, Yeah Yeah Yeahs,

What we think they sound like: Imagine if you took Elastica, Belly, The Sundays, Phoebe Bridgers and made them play Disintegration era Cure songs. I kind of feel like that is what they are going for. Tracks get pretty eclectic and hard to pigeon hole but I definitely hear the Interpol, Joy Division, Bauhaus meets modern things like Yeah Yeah Yeah’s vibe too.

Songs to add to your playlist: Come Out Of the Dark, The Darker You

BAND: ANARBOR

BloodMakesNoise Rating:  6/10

Genre: Indie Pop, Electro

What the band says they sound like: Not sure, no press release with this one but they are on Hopeless Records which used to be a punk rock label. This is not that.

What we think they sound like: This is teetering the line between cool dancey punk like LCD Sound System but ends up being more Maroon 5 mixed with Tears For Fears. If you dig stuff with a strong 80’s vibe this might be your thing.

Songs to add to your playlist: Bad Love

BAND: FENIXDION

BloodMakesNoise Rating:  10/10

Genre: Soul, Blues, Indie Pop

What the band says they sound like: Bill Withers, Curtis Mayfield, Funkadelic, Buddy Moss, Beck

What we think they sound like: Imagine Lenny Kravitz or Jimi Hendrix for that matter played more soulful songs that grooved like Betty Davis and had the vocal swagger of well Bill Withers or Curtis Mayfield. For once a band delivers on what they said they sound like and I’m here for it. This is the future.

Songs to add to your playlist: Sugar, Mama Say

BAND: CROZET

BloodMakesNoise Rating: 7.5/10

Genre: Indie Pop, 80’s Inspired

What the band says they sound like: John Hughes style film scores

What we think they sound like: Man, this band is right on with their description of their music. It’s a John Hughes montage from that part at the end of the movie where we’ve all learned something and grown a little. I’m not joking, just listen and you’ll be like, "oh, shit, that’s so dead on".

Songs to add to your playlist: Summer Nights

BAND: ERIC HILTON

BloodMakesNoise Rating: 10/10

Genre: Jazz, Trip Hop, Indie Electro

What the band says they sound like:  a classic, experimental trip-hop record

What we think they sound like: Possibly the best thing to come through the inbox this month. If you dig the tones and feel of bands like Portishead, Tortoise, Jaga Jazzists and things like that, you will really dig this.

Songs to add to your playlist: Flowering Soul, Lost Dialect

BAND: EDNA

BloodMakesNoise Rating: 8.5/10

Genre: Indie Rock

What the band says they sound like: Elliot Smith, Tom Petty, Guided By Voices, Pavement

What we think they sound like: I get the Elliot Smith comparison but it’s like Elliot Smith being backed by early era Pavement. The songs are a little more sung out than a hushed Elliot Smith vocal. Enjoyable none the less.

Songs to add to your playlist: Junkyard Dog
