WAR HONEY “SKINLESS” REVIEW

Right away Gabrielle Dana’s vocal draws you into the track with it’s power. It’s definitely a soulful jazzy voice. I was expecting with a name like War Honey that I was about to listen to a metal track. The music is well played, well produced but a little sterile for my taste. It feels like it’s missing some edge. I feel like this band can do some really cool stuff with this kind of vocal and I would venture to say it could go on a trippy dark electronic path like Portishead or even an indie pop path like Fiona Apple.  I love the voice but even after checking out the other tracks from War Honey I’m not exactly sure if they clearly fit in a genre or have a vision for what kind of band they are. Maybe that’s a good thing. One of their older tracks “Landmine” feels a little more soulful musically than the rest and I think that’s a great direction for this band. Looking forward to hearing more!
