Los Angeles psych-rock collective Tombstones In Their Eyes emerge from the haze with “Under Dark Skies,” the first single from their forthcoming album of the same name, out December 5 via Little Cloud Records (North America) and Shore Dive Records (UK/EU).
Equal parts melancholic and redemptive, “Under Dark Skies” finds the band transforming pain into catharsis—embracing the shadows while searching for light. With its swirling guitars, meditative tempos, and emotional density, the track feels like a descent into darkness that somehow circles back toward hope. It’s the sound of rock bottom as a point of renewal, a prayer whispered through distortion.
The single arrives with a video directed by Italian multimedia artist Francesca Bonci, whose surreal visuals have graced projects from Federale and Peter Holmström (The Dandy Warhols / Pete International Airport) to Rachel Goswell (Slowdive). The video mirrors the song’s mood—dreamlike, raw, and spiritual, unfolding like a ritual for rebirth.
Fronted by John Treanor (vocals/guitar), the band’s lineup includes Stephen Striegel (drums), Courtney Davies (vocals), Phil Cobb (guitar), Paul Boutin (guitar), Nic Nifoussi (bass), and Clea Cullen (vocals). What began as Treanor’s personal songwriting outlet a decade ago has evolved into one of LA’s most compelling underground psych acts—a group that channels emotional turmoil into sprawling, immersive soundscapes.
Recorded and engineered by Paul Roessler (Josie Cotton, Nina Hagen, Hayley and the Crushers) at Kitten Robot Studios, the album was co-produced by Treanor and mastered by Alex DeYoung (Michael Jackson, BTS, The Linda Lindas). The production keeps the band’s signature blend of reverb-drenched guitars and intimate confessionals intact, pushing their sound into deeper emotional and sonic territory.
Following 2024’s Asylum Harbour, Under Dark Skies captures a moment of transformation—less about despair and more about surviving it. For Tombstones In Their Eyes, the act of making music is a form of therapy, a way to crawl toward the light through walls of sound and distortion.
