THE DIONYSUS EFFECT: STARS

It’s kind of weird that the guitar tone after just a second takes me back to the year 2000 and something like At The Drive In’s high pitched single note leads. That good old Marshall sound. Then the vocal comes in with a very early 2000’s post grunge, indie rock vibe. It’s kind of The Killers in vibe but the overall song musically has a little bit of that early 2000’s Yeah Yeah Yeah’s NYC feel, which probably comes from the fact that this is a NY band. I’m not sure I needed such a hair metal solo to end the track. This is just my musical two cents but if you are going to be a trio your bass player is going to need to be a little more intricate than a Kim Deal style bass player or just get a second guitar or keyboard player to fill in some of that mid-range space. Basically sonically if you want to the trio to work you gotta take a lesson from a band like Joy Division, if your bass is going to just hammer and drive the whole time then drums need to be dancier. Especially if the guitar is only going to play high register stuff and never break into chords. But I digress, the track is not bad but seeing as it’s the very first thing this band is releasing they have time to figure it out and gel better as a unit.
