Portland band Sun Atoms is back with a striking new single, “Narco Polo,” featuring Isaac Brock of Modest Mouse. This track is the last single before their album Everything Forever, which comes out on November 8 through Little Cloud Records. The album is mixed by well-known producer Jagz Kooner, who has worked with Massive Attack and Primal Scream, and mastered by Keith Tenniswood, known for his work with Spiritualized.
The music video for “Narco Polo” is an imaginative journey filmed partly at Modest Mouse’s Ice Cream Party headquarters. Directed by Brady Tuazon, the video shows Brock as a wizard and Sun Atoms’ Jsun Adams as his playful helper, creating a scene where it’s unclear if the characters are awake or dreaming. This fits with the band’s usual themes of duality and mystery.
Sun Atoms, led by vocalist Jsun Adams, includes bassist Peter G. Holmström from The Dandy Warhols, June Kang, Mars de Ponte, Eric Rubalcava, and Derek Spencer Longoria-Gomez. The group mixes elements of psychedelic rock and indie pop to make a unique sound that stretches creative boundaries.
The video, according to Tuazon, blends different layers of reality, with scenes featuring characters like a giant hand, a bear, and a flying ice cream cone. It showcases the wild, artistic energy Sun Atoms brings to their projects. Jsun Adams described the video shoot as feeling like being inside a surreal painting by Salvador Dali.
Isaac Brock's presence on the track adds depth and an unexpected twist to the band's sound. His past collaborations with Holmström and Sun Atoms’ recent shows with Modest Mouse made this project come together smoothly.
