Oakland-based artist Spacemoth has unveiled the new single and video for “Internet Fantasy,” the latest release from the upcoming album Inward Eye, due out June 26 via Greenway Records. The track continues the project's exploration of psychedelic pop, hypnotic rhythms, and thoughtful songwriting while offering listeners a deeper look into the themes that shape the record.
Spacemoth is the creative project of musician, producer, and engineer Maryam Qudus, whose work blends cosmic textures, looping arrangements, and melodic experimentation. On “Internet Fantasy,” Qudus examines the challenges of staying present in a world increasingly shaped by online experiences. The song focuses on the tendency to become absorbed in the lives and realities of others through the internet, often at the expense of appreciating one's own surroundings.
Musically, the track builds around repeating patterns that gradually evolve throughout its runtime. A steady bassline, crisp drum rhythms, droning organ tones, and layered vocals create a dreamlike atmosphere that slowly expands into a larger and more dramatic conclusion. The result is a song that feels both meditative and dynamic, capturing the tension between distraction and self-awareness.
The accompanying video was directed and edited by Jordan Macapagal, providing a visual counterpart to the song's reflective themes and immersive sound.
Inward Eye was created during a busy period in Qudus's career. While continuing her work as an engineer and producer at Oakland's Tiny Telephone Recording, she also spent years touring and collaborating with a variety of artists. Much of the album began taking shape while traveling across North America, with Qudus writing and developing ideas during long stretches on the road.
The album is also deeply connected to memory and personal reflection. During the recording process, Qudus spent time digitizing her family's collection of home movies, an experience that inspired many of the record's themes surrounding nostalgia, imagination, and the passage of time.
With “Internet Fantasy” now available, Spacemoth continues to build anticipation for Inward Eye. The new single highlights the project's evolving sound while showcasing Qudus's ability to combine intricate arrangements with emotionally resonant ideas, setting the stage for one of the summer's most anticipated independent releases.
