UK-based brothers Henry and Reuben Smith, known as Sons of Sevilla, have announced their new album Street Light Moon, arriving September 5 via Bia Ubiquity Records. The record is produced by GRAMMY winner Adrian Quesada, best known for his work with Black Pumas, and features a warm mix of alt‑pop melodies and hazy 70s funk tones.
Along with the album news, the duo has released its lead single, “Butterfly.” The track drifts between dreamy synth textures and subtle grooves, evoking humid nights and distant summer lights. It offers an early look at the group’s evolving style, leaning less on standard British indie rock and more toward layered, borderless sounds.
The brothers grew up in a family-owned pub outside Leeds, listening to records by artists like John Prine and J.J. Cale while their parents worked behind the bar. Summers were spent in Sevilla, Spain, where the dry heat and colorful streets left a lasting mark on their music. Later, they wrote much of Street Light Moon on an old fishing trawler docked at a marina in Gibraltar, before traveling to Austin, Texas, to record with Quesada and a small team of multi‑instrumentalists.
“We don’t sing about where we’re from,” Henry says. “The music escapes it. We’re trying very hard not to be an English indie rock band, because the world already has a lot of those. Instead, we’re trying to step into something else… and somewhere else.”
Their previous album, Lullabies for a Wildcat, was made in isolation during the pandemic, showcasing a lo‑fi approach. In contrast, Street Light Moon embraces a fuller, more colorful sound while maintaining the personal storytelling that first defined the group.
Sons of Sevilla will tour the US this fall alongside Skinshape, with dates to be announced soon.
