JoobieSeaz returns with yet another dreamy & hypnotic, catchy lo-fi gem: “My Neighbor." The song starts out with one of bassist Alex Generous’ signature trippy, dancing bass lines and then introduces Lola Geller’s airy & wavey vocals. At first the vocals and bass are isolated, as we are seduced into the feel of the song before the atmosphere of the track expands around the 40 second mark; other sounds are introduced which lead into the hook of the chorus. It’s been about a year and a half since we’ve last heard from JoobieSeaz. Since then, they have settled in Lille, France and added Guillaume Verbrugge for additional guitar duties. They released 2 singles in 2023, and it’s great to hear new music from them with their distinctive sound: a blend of 90s inspired indie and post punk that “grips you and won’t let go”, similar to the character of their new song “My Neighbor” (we think). JoobieSeaz share some insights into their new single, which seems to describe the topic they explored:
“We moved to France — a big step, it felt raw and real, a leap into the unknown you couldn’t even name. We rented this house and ended up living with a roommate who seemed like he’d walked out of a film where everything’s falling apart. The atmosphere of our new dwelling was pure decadence: the air thick with smoke, dusty vinyl spinning on an old turntable, and a voice carved out of stone and shadows. He lived surrounded by half-empty glasses, the crackle of records, and the silence that filled the spaces between his long monologues about the futility of it all. And yet, he laughed at the world, like he held onto some hidden truth we’d never understand. It was strange. Strange and wild, but it gripped you and wouldn’t let go.”
