San Gabriel has released their debut full-length album Nights and Weekends today through Seattle-based nonprofit label Share It Music. The record introduces a collection of synth-driven songs that balance shimmering pop textures with reflective themes of transition, uncertainty, and resilience.
The album, which is out now, follows a run of singles including “Close 2 U,” “Play With Fire,” “Running Out of Time,” and “Alone in My Room.” Across fourteen tracks, Nights and Weekends blends the pulse of indie electronic grooves with the introspection of late-night bedroom pop. The sound is marked by buoyant synth layers, propulsive rhythms, and melodies that shift between nostalgic haze and forward-looking optimism.
Proceeds from the album will support the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians, continuing Share It Music’s mission of pairing new releases with charitable causes. San Gabriel has also signed with Sub Pop Publishing, setting the stage for expanded opportunities as the project continues to grow. A West Coast tour is planned for the fall in support of the record.
San Gabriel is the work of Austin-based artist James Bookert, who first gained recognition with Whiskey Shivers and later contributed to high-profile collaborations across pop and hip-hop. After stepping away from his former band and facing personal health challenges, he began crafting the songs that would become Nights and Weekends during late shifts while working at a liquor store in East Austin. The project takes its name from those hours, reflecting both the reality of balancing work and music and the perseverance required to build something new.
The record’s lyrical themes address lost love, grief, and the unpredictability of forging a path in music. Despite the weight of these subjects, the production maintains a sense of brightness, creating a contrast that feels both intimate and expansive. With its mix of personal storytelling and infectious synth-pop energy, Nights and Weekends arrives as a statement of resilience, creativity, and renewed direction for San Gabriel.
