Bay Area band Ryli just released their newest single “Friend Collector,” a playful and uptempo track from their upcoming debut album Come and Get Me, out June 27 on Dandy Boy Records. With bouncy basslines, bright guitar sounds, and sweet harmonies, the song blends classic indie pop with just the right amount of bite.
Lead singer Yea-Ming Chen says the track is their “sassiest song” yet. It talks about what it feels like to be someone’s “trophy friend” — all while hiding deeper feelings like trust problems and codependency. But the band keeps it light with a fun tone and catchy sound.
The music video for “Friend Collector” shows Ryli on the road, laughing backstage and sharing behind-the-scenes moments. It was filmed by Bobby Martinez and edited by Simon Linsteadt, with animations by John Wise. The video gives fans a look at the band’s silly side as they travel and perform together.
Ryli is made up of Chen and guitarist Rob Good, along with bassist Luke Robbins and drummer Ian McBrayer. Together, they’ve built a strong reputation for their energetic live shows. But with Come and Get Me, they show they can make exciting and smart pop music in the studio too.
The album includes other standout songs like “Medicine Speed,” a dreamy track with fast rhythms and sharp guitars, and “Break,” a darker, guitar-heavy song that shows a more serious side of the band. Throughout the record, Chen’s deep vocals bring emotion and honesty to every line.
Even though this is Ryli’s first full-length album, their songs feel thoughtful and well-crafted. Influences like The Smiths and Belle & Sebastian are there, but Ryli manages to sound fresh and original.
Come and Get Me is fun and smart at the same time: a record full of energy, emotion, and great songwriting. Ryli isn’t just starting out. They’re already making their mark.
