Baltimore’s RAVAGERS bring it. With a guitar tone to die for and a snarly vocal reminiscent of Stiv Bators, RAVAGERS blend 70s glam with 70s/early 80s punk and hard rock. From their upcoming album “Badlands” due out Feb 4 via Spaghetty Town Records, their new single “Shake the Reaper” is a kick in the face of pure rocknroll fury, fueled with killer riffage, a solid rhythm section and what comes off as authentic attitude and spirit, a missing element in much of today’s music. This shit has a fucking soul, ok?
The catchy chorus borrows that one note piano part from the Stooges effectively, and the vocal melody and execution is the main hook of the song. I was hoping the guitar solo wouldn’t ruin it for me, as this happens sometimes, but this dude has chops and delivers a crisp guitar solo that continues throughout the rest of the song.
In the video, the grim reaper hunts down the band members and takes them out one by one, even causing the singer’s head to explode (excellent) around the two-and-a-half-minute mark. The video is very well done and is a fun watch.
What can I say? As an introduction to RAVAGERS, I’m hooked. They have all the ingredients to effectively play this style of music that many seem to think is easily done and it simply is not. You gotta feel the sleaze, you gotta be the sleaze. You gotta rock and fucking roll, man!! BLAST THIS!!
