Theodore Grimm is making waves once again with their unique blend of dance rock, bringing new life to their sound in 2024. Formed in 2003, the band has undergone changes, but their passion for creating music remains. Led by guitarist-turned-vocalist Mark Renda, along with original drummer Chucky Grimm and new bassist Alex Burton (formerly of Paulson), Theodore Grimm’s latest work represents continuing rebirth.
A mix of psychedelic garage rock that feels timeless yet current with influences from Interpol to 60's Garage Rock like 13th Floor Elevators. Their debut album, Sharp Teeth, Crooked Jaws, showcased their energy and creativity, earning them a loyal fan base and now over a decade later it seems they refined and polished up their already infectious sound.
Theodore Grimm has released new singles that build on their past while embracing a heavier, more intentional sound. Their second single of the year, "Wild West," stands out as a bold concept song. The track paints a vivid picture of a forgotten Western town, filled with saloons, gunslingers, and outlaws. Renda explained that the song's inspiration came from the grit and chaos of the Wild West, drawing parallels between the struggle to survive in that world and the modern fight to keep moving forward through adversity.
With the release of "Wild West," Theodore Grimm pushes the boundaries of their typical song structure. The band shifts toward storytelling, creating a romanticized version of outlaws and heroes. The heavier sound of the track gives the song an added intensity, making it a standout piece in their catalog.
Renda continues with, “Wyatt Earp, Billy the Kid, infamous locals who had an unorthodox approach to their own versions of law and order and social conduct”, sounds a lot like Theodore Grimm, infamous locals to the North Jersey indie rock scene.
