M.E.L.T. Announce New Album Innervate/Obliterate, Out October 3

Pittsburgh heavy psych trio M.E.L.T. are preparing to release their new record, Innervate/Obliterate, on October 3, 2025. The album follows their 2023 release Replica of Man and shows the group reaching a sharper and more unified sound. To mark the release, M.E.L.T. will headline a hometown show at Thunderbird Music Hall on October 4, joined by Blinder and World II.

The record was produced by longtime collaborator Nate Campisi, a Pittsburgh producer known for capturing the band’s raw but dynamic style. Innervate/Obliterate spans eleven tracks that move through a wide range of moods. From the distorted drive of “Ride” to the volatile breakdowns of “Krakatoa,” the album blends dense riffs, shifting tempos, and layered vocals. As with Replica of Man, each member takes the lead on different tracks, giving the record multiple perspectives while keeping the sound cohesive.

Early highlights include the sprawling, prog-leaning “Gnomeskull,” the doom-heavy “Tranquilized,” and the crushing lead single “Mass Grave,” which sets the tone with grinding guitar work and explosive energy. Fans of Black Sabbath, Primus, and Ty Segall will recognize the influence while also hearing M.E.L.T.’s own identity come through.

Since forming in 2021, M.E.L.T. (originally MELT) have built a reputation in Pittsburgh’s scene with overwhelming live shows that feature heavy tones, unpredictable crowd energy, and even surreal touches like alien dancers and bursts of confetti. They’ve shared stages with acts including Lightning Bolt, Pigs x7, The Mystery Lights, and Rickshaw Billie’s Burger Patrol, all while becoming regulars at citywide festivals like the Northside Music Festival.

Their sophomore record Replica of Man gained coverage from outlets such as Doomed & Stoned, Blood Makes Noise, and Rebel Noise, and also marked their first major tour. With Innervate/Obliterate, the band aims to expand even further, balancing heavy psychedelic soundscapes with songwriting that remains immediate and gripping.

M.E.L.T. is Joey Troupe (guitar/vocals), James May (bass/vocals), and J.J. Young (drums/vocals). Together, they continue to shape a vision that blends intensity, experimentation, and a commanding live presence.
