Andrew Becker’s experimental pop project releases the final preview of the new album, out now via What Delicate Recordings.
Human Potential, the solo musical project of Andrew Becker, has released the new single “Sun-E Corporation Teenage Anthem,” the final preview from the newly released album Eel Sparkles, out now via What Delicate Recordings.
The track follows the earlier singles “The Sightseer” and “Practice Songs For The Unloved,” each offering glimpses into the strange and colorful sonic world Becker builds throughout the album. With “Sun-E Corporation Teenage Anthem,” that world expands further, blending glam-tinged pop instincts with eccentric arrangements and playful experimentation.
Becker, a former drummer for Dischord Records band Medications and Brooklyn experimental outfit Screens, approaches Human Potential with the same restless curiosity that has shaped his wider creative career. In addition to music, he is an award-winning filmmaker known for blending careful craftsmanship with surreal, imaginative storytelling. Those instincts carry directly into Eel Sparkles, where pop songwriting collides with unusual textures and unexpected sonic detours.
Across the record, Becker pulls from a wide range of influences while pushing further into the experimental edge hinted at in earlier releases. Songs bounce between skewed pop melodies, oddball instrumentation, and left-field lyrical storytelling. “Sun-E Corporation Teenage Anthem” leans toward a theatrical pop energy, while “Practice Songs For The Unloved” explores loose, playful hooks and “The Sightseer” layers jagged textures over a funk-leaning rhythm.
Lyrically, the album moves through a series of surreal narratives and characters, mixing dark humor with strange imagery. References to movie stars, strange creatures, and unusual personalities weave through the songs, creating a record that feels more like a shifting collection of short stories than a straightforward album.
To support the release of Eel Sparkles, Human Potential will perform upcoming shows in California, including April 18 at The Black Cat Bar in San Diego and May 24 at Scribble in Los Angeles.
