California rock band Hail The Sun have unveiled two new singles, “Consumed With You” and “Blight,” from their highly anticipated new album cut. turn. fade. back., due October 24 via Equal Vision Records. A music video for “Consumed With You,” directed by Alex Bemis, is now online, while “Blight” is streaming across all platforms.
Frontman Donovan Melero shared that “Consumed With You” came from a deeply personal place: “I saw her in the background when I was looking into the mirror. She had tears running down her cheeks due to the frustration she felt about her condition. I couldn’t stop thinking about how much I wish I could help, and how much I would crave the sound of her voice if I no longer could hear it.” On “Blight,” Melero reflected on themes of reality and uncertainty, asking, “Are we living in a reality constantly in flux?…How many are there? Do they intercept? Will we ever know?”
Produced and engineered by Pete Adams and Grammy winner Johnny Kosich of Beach Noise (Kendrick Lamar), and mixed/mastered by Zakk Cervini (Blink-182, Bring Me The Horizon, Coheed and Cambria), the album shows the band expanding their sonic approach while keeping their post-hardcore edge. The record explores military atrocities, addiction, love, and death, using its eleven tracks to reflect on the cyclical nature of life.
Hail The Sun will showcase these songs on a North American co-headline tour with Between The Buried and Me beginning September 14 in Philadelphia. They will also headline Kill Iconic Fest in San Antonio on October 5, alongside Head Automatica, Makari, and more.
Formed in Chico, California in 2009, the band—Melero, guitarists Shane Gann and Aric Garcia, bassist John Stirrat, and drummer Allen Casillas—have built a reputation for crafting music that is both experimental and emotionally charged. cut. turn. fade. back. marks their seventh full-length release, and Melero says the band’s mission remains clear: “Fifteen years in, I love that we've been allowed this fan base to speak to. I feel very grateful and fortunate, and I hope it keeps carrying us forward.”
Post-hardcore has always been a genre that thrives on tension—balancing melody with chaos, vulnerability with aggression. Bands like Hail The Sun keep that tradition alive while also reshaping it for a new generation. Their ability to fold in math-rock complexity, emotional honesty, and experimental production makes cut. turn. fade. back. feel like more than just another album; it’s a reminder of why this style of music continues to matter. At its best, post-hardcore gives a voice to questions and struggles that don’t have easy answers, and Hail The Sun show that after 15 years, they’re still pushing the genre to evolve without losing its urgency.
