Grand Rapids Band Potionseller to Release New EP "When They Get Old"

Grand Rapids, MI-based band Potionseller droped their debut EP, "When They Get Old," on July 19th through PNWK Records. This marks a significant milestone for the alt-rock, post-emo, and pop-punk group.

The first single from the EP, "Monarchs Club," is complete with a new music video. The song has quickly garnered praise. This track gives a taste of the emotional depth and dynamic sound that Potionseller brings to their music.

The EP was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Ryan Malicsi of Hot Mulligan at Eureka Records in Wyandotte, MI. Malicsi's expertise has helped Potionseller craft a polished and powerful collection of songs. Potionseller was formed in late 2021 during the pandemic by vocalist Austen Reno. Reno had spent his teens and twenties touring with his previous band, If Only, If Only. After the band broke up, he wrote five new songs and teamed up with his friend Ryan Malicsi to record them.

After recording the songs, Reno decided to assemble a full band. His first addition was childhood friend Jake Bartell on bass. Bartell, an accomplished classical and jazz musician, joined the DIY scene for the first time with Potionseller. Drummer John Wilson, a veteran of the Michigan music scene, was the next to join. Andy Morris, who had his own band Common Nonsense, came on board, followed by lead guitarist Nate Leritz, a former label mate who had years of touring experience.

The newly formed band began practicing regularly and played their first show on March 10th, 2023, at Mulligan’s Pub in Grand Rapids. They quickly followed up with an opening slot for Worry Club & Saturdays at Your Place at the Pike Room in Pontiac and a performance at Stoop Fest in Lansing. That summer, they played several shows at the Pyramid Scheme in Grand Rapids, including an opening set for Wheatus.

After two years of refining their sound through vibrant single releases and energetic performances, Potionseller is ready to share their new five-song EP. "When They Get Old" blends the nostalgia of 2000s pop-punk with modern emo influences, showcasing the band's growth and versatility. This release promises to cement Potionseller's place in the alt-rock scene.
