Florida band blend nu-metal bounce and metalcore weight on new Smartpunk release
Florida band GILT return with “Seattle Day 2,” a new single and video released through Smartpunk Records. Marking their first release in four years, the track introduces a heavier and more aggressive direction for the self-described “Nu Emocore” group.
“Seattle Day 2” leans into dense, hard-edged production, combining nu-metal groove with metalcore structure. Low-tuned guitars drive the track with chugging patterns and a steady rhythmic push, while breakdown sections lock into a repetitive, forceful pulse. The arrangement stays tight and deliberate, prioritizing impact over variation.
Vocally, Asha Locke delivers a raw and intense performance, built around screamed passages that emphasize pressure and confinement. The delivery matches the track’s tone, reinforcing a sense of being trapped within the sound rather than moving freely through it.
The song’s concept draws from a reference to a boss encounter in The Last of Us, using that framework to explore internal conflict and loss of control. The writing focuses on surrendering to darker instincts, presenting the experience as something unavoidable and cyclical.
