Footballhead Drop “Fall Away” as New Album Weight of The Truth Arrives

Chicago alt-rock band lean into strings, keys, and massive guitars on their latest single from the newly released album via Tiny Engines.

Chicago rock band Footballhead have released their new single “Fall Away,” taken from their latest album Weight of The Truth, which is out now via Tiny Engines. The track is the third single from the record, following the earlier releases “Used To Be” and “Diversion.”

“Fall Away” highlights a different side of the band’s sound. Built around towering guitars and a dramatic arrangement, the song expands into rock ballad territory with layered strings and keys sitting beneath the band’s signature distortion-heavy foundation. The additional instrumentation was recorded by Mike Altergott, adding a sweeping dimension that complements the band’s punchy guitar work.

The band explained that the song was designed to bring variety to the album’s overall tone, intentionally leaning into a big rock ballad style that has become less common in recent years. The orchestral layers were added to balance the guitars and give the track a sense of scale that helps complete the arc of the record.

Footballhead’s music draws heavily from late-1990s and early-2000s alternative rock, blending power chord momentum with massive choruses and emotional directness. Across Weight of The Truth, the band leans into those influences while shaping them into a modern, high-energy sound that connects nostalgia with a forward-looking approach.

The new album follows their 2024 debut Overthinking Everything, which gained international attention and radio play across multiple continents. Since then, the band has continued to expand their reach through touring and festival appearances, including Riot Fest in Chicago. They have also shared stages with acts such as One Step Closer, Superbloom, Hot Mulligan, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, and Senses Fail.

Footballhead will support the new album with an extensive North American tour alongside Ben Quad, with additional support from Riley! and Aren’t We Amphibians. The run kicked off earlier this month and includes stops in cities such as Boston, Brooklyn, Denver, Seattle, San Diego, and Dallas.

With Weight of The Truth now out and “Fall Away” showcasing the band’s most expansive sound yet, Footballhead continue to push their brand of modern alternative rock toward bigger arrangements and wider emotional scope.
