Montreal’s power pop band Dany Laj and the Looks are back with a new single, "Meet Me On the Floor," set for release on August 23rd. This track follows their 2022 single "You Should Know" and is the first taste of new music after a long break from touring. The band has been itching to get back on the road since 2019, and frontman Dany Laj is excited to bring their energetic sound to audiences again.
Laj shared how the downtime made them restless, explaining, “We miss the road. It’s where we belong.” The band faced numerous delays trying to tour their 2021 album Ten Easy Pieces, but every attempt was interrupted by the pandemic. However, things changed in March when Laj received a late-night message that reignited plans for a tour, giving the band a chance to perform again.
Once the tour was in motion, Laj got to work on writing their latest single, "Meet Me On the Floor." This track, recorded in their own studio, La La Pop Shoppe, showcases the band’s upbeat, garage-rock-inspired power pop. Alongside Laj’s energetic vocals and guitar, bassist Jeanette Dowling and new members David Laplante (guitar) and Alex Pauzé (drums) deliver a tight performance. The song also features a guest tambourine appearance from Stacey Case of Tijuana Bibles and Weirdies.
Dany Laj and the Looks will finally hit the road this fall. They’ll tour Northern Ontario to British Columbia with K-Man & The 45s through mid-October before embarking on a US tour from the Midwest to the Northeast. After a break, they’ll return to Canadian stages in November, playing dates with Paul Collins’ Beat.
