Born Ruffians Share Short Film Beauty’s Pride Ahead of New Album Release

Canadian indie rock band Born Ruffians are released a new album Beauty’s Pride on June 6 through Yep Roc Records. But first, fans can watch a special short film of the same name which is available below.

Beauty’s Pride isn’t just a music video or behind-the-scenes documentary. It’s a thoughtful, artistic film made to go along with the new album. It was directed by Jared Raab, who has worked on films like BlackBerry and Nirvanna the Band the Show. The project was also shaped by Peter Dreimanis, a Canadian actor and musician, along with Leah Fay Goldstein and members of Born Ruffians.

The 20-minute film mixes old and new footage, combining clips from the band’s history with new scenes set in classrooms, labs, and daily life. It’s designed to ask big questions about creativity, beauty, and how people understand the world. It shows band members Luke, Mitch, Steve, and Maddy as they reflect on their time making music together and what it means to grow and change.

There are no interviews or simple answers in Beauty’s Pride. Instead, it uses poetic visuals and quiet moments to explore ideas about time, identity, and discovery. One scene might show a quiet walk or a bike ride, while another might cut to the stars or an old stage performance. The mix of personal and universal makes the film feel both honest and mysterious.

Born Ruffians have been making music since 2008, and Beauty’s Pride feels like a deep look at their journey. It's not only a companion to the album, but a new kind of storytelling for the band.

Following the release, the band will head out on a U.S. tour this fall.

Fans who enjoy thoughtful indie rock with creative visuals won’t want to miss Beauty’s Pride, either as a film or as an album.
