North Jersey’s The Bitter Chills are back with a new video that shows their sharp humor and honest style. The indie folk rock band just released a video for their short song “An A**hole or Two,”** which comes from their latest album Young Time Rock N’ Roll. This is their third album with Mint 400 Records.
The Bitter Chills are three kind guys who like to read, dress nicely, and stay close with their families. But most people know them for their music. They write songs that mix Americana and classic pop in a catchy and thoughtful way. Fans of Ryan Adams, The Decemberists, and The Lumineers will find something to like in their sound.
The band’s songs are full of clever lines and warm melodies. They add humor that feels similar to Fountains of Wayne or Ben Folds. Their new song and video are great examples of this.
The song “An A**hole or Two” is only 80 seconds long, but it makes its point clear. The video is a montage of cars parked in rude and annoying ways. There are cars blocking sidewalks, taking up two spots, and parked crooked for no reason.
“This is a time of great anxiety in our nation, and we felt a responsibility to confront this major issue,” said Matt Cheplic, singer and chief songwriter of the band. “People receive public shame for doing far less these days, and this obnoxious behavior has gone far enough.”
In addition to the egregious parking footage, the video features cameos from some stern, disapproving kids -- including the daughters of Mint 400 head Neil Sabatino. “Even pretty young kids who are still years away from driving a car can tell at first glance when someone has parked like an a**hole,” Cheplic explains.
With Young Time Rock N’ Roll, The Bitter Chills keep doing what they do best — writing catchy indie folk songs that mix smart words with a warm, rootsy sound. Their new video proves they can make people laugh while exposing the careless things idiots do every day without thinking twice.
