BMN PREMIERE: DANA WHY "KNEEL"

You may have seen this man playing with some the Garden States's best indie bands like Little Hag or Yawn Mower, but now Dana Yurcisin is breaking out on his own with the upcoming album 'The Lyre' in January 2023. Newly signed to North Jersey indie label Mint 400 Records, Dana Why is planning 3 singles as we lead up to his epic indie rock 15 song LP. The first of those singles is "Kneel" and we got to talk to Dana about the track:

This song was inspired by a man I used to work for. He was kind of the archetype of the religious man who uses his Christianity as a shield for all his horrible opinions & beliefs. "How can I be bad if I follow Christ?", I imagine him thinking, looking down at his pinky cross ring.

I remember this one time walking in NYC with him, and him and his wife urged me to cross the street when they saw two Black men walking toward us. It was surreal, I felt like I was talking to someone out of the 1950s. But it's just my whiteness that allows me to occasionally forget that this is very much our current reality.

The choruses also hint at feeling trapped in your hometown. I was working for this man, pissed off and unfulfilled, nearing 30 and living at my parents house once again after having to leave Maine, a place I love, because of unemployment. It was a very difficult time mentally, so without much effort, this became one of the angriest songs on the record.

Today BloodMakesNoise is proud to present the track "Kneel" by Dana Why:
