BMN EXCLUSIVE PREMIERE: Mike Chick's “Tomorrow Is All A Blur" + Upcoming Solo Album "Congarts"

Asbury Park songwriter Mike Chick, known for his work with Yawn Mower, has released a new solo single, “Tomorrow Is All A Blur”. The track is a first glimpse of his upcoming album Congarts, which arrives April 17 via Mint 400 Records, backed by a re-imagined take on The Minutemen’s “Corona.”

“Tomorrow Is All A Blur” is a hazy combo of indie pop and lo-fi electronic influences. Buzzing synths and fuzzy guitars come in blasts all at once over the rigid, looping beat, creating a sense of motion that feels stuck and restless all at once. Soft vocal layers rise and harmonize through the distortion, adding a winking, comforting feel that cuts through the song’s mechanical pulse. The repetition feels intentional, reinforcing the song’s sense of disorientation and uncertain, emotional fog.

The B-side cover of “Corona” shifts the mood slightly without losing focus. Chick strips away the original’s tension and more freewheeling tendencies, reining it in and rebuilding around a steady rhythm and a more atmospheric mix that recalls Yo La Tengo's breeziest works. Warm, nimble guitar lines and mellow organ give the song an open, wistful feel, turning it into something reflective rather than confrontational. It’s a respectful transformation that highlights Chick’s ear for texture and pacing.

Both tracks point toward the broader shape of Congarts, Chick’s upcoming solo LP and follow-up to 2023’s More Thrills, Less Hills. The album plays like a carefully sequenced mix rather than a rigid statement, moving between electronic-driven tracks, organ-heavy grooves, a single high-energy rock cut, acoustic moments, and brief atmospheric interludes. Recorded largely at home over an extended stretch of time, the record was unencumbered by pressure and unfolds in an inspired but unhurried manner.

The album also features vocals from Martin Howth throughout, with additional contributions from Bob Paulos and Nicole Scorsone adding rhythms and textural stringed. Mixed by Rudy Meier and mastered by Pat Noon, Congarts creates intrigue in small details and proudly accepts imperfection as part of its identity.

“Tomorrow Is All A Blur” sets a perfect tone for a record rooted in mood, repetition, and quiet experimentation. It's out today alongside Corona, with Congarts following on April 17.
