Flatspot Records release delivers 15 minutes of furious, groove-heavy hardcore rooted in truth and resistance.
Baltimore hardcore trio The S.E.T. have officially released their debut EP Self Evident Truth, out now via Flatspot Records. The six-track release delivers a tight, furious burst of hardcore built on thick basslines, fast-paced drumming, and direct, uncompromising vocals.
The band formed in early 2024 through jam sessions between bassist Che — founder of Flatspot Records — and drummer Ryan, formerly of Baltimore hardcore band End It. After quickly writing instrumentals for several songs, the pair began searching for a vocalist. That search ended when Che spotted Tim grabbing the mic during a performance at the Disturbin’ The Peace Festival and invited him to join the project. With the lineup complete, The S.E.T. moved quickly toward recording their debut.
Self Evident Truth clocks in at roughly 15 minutes and draws inspiration from classic Baltimore and New York hardcore. The band channels the groove-driven aggression of groups like Gut Instinct and Stout while pulling from crossover-era staples such as Leeway and Judge. The result is a stripped-down hardcore sound that prioritizes rhythm, urgency, and blunt lyrical delivery.
The EP was recorded and mixed by Justin Day at New Noise Recording and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege, giving the tracks a thick, immediate punch that matches the band’s direct approach.
Lyrically, Self Evident Truth confronts themes of political manipulation, propaganda, and systemic injustice. The songs frame these issues through a lens of resistance and solidarity, reflecting the band’s belief in equal rights and community action.
Beyond the recordings themselves, The S.E.T. view the project as an extension of the hardcore scene’s tradition of collective energy and shared purpose. The band’s goal is to create a space where music and message intersect — where shows become gathering points for people who want to challenge injustice and stand together.
With Self Evident Truth now released, The S.E.T. arrive with a debut that is short, direct, and unfiltered, firmly rooted in the intensity and community spirit that defines hardcore.
