Bad Whoremoans is a fun and snotty punk rock band, which makes me think about how any band decides on how they want to present themselves - Should we be a humorous band or a serious one? Are there discussions about this or does it just happen naturally depending on the demeanor of the players themselves? Either way, I get the impression Bad Whoremoan's main man Paul Mauled is himself, fun and snotty, thumbing his nose at bands that take themselves too seriously while having seriously constructed his own.
A one-time bass player for Bobby Steele’s “The Undead”, Mauled has taken his tongue-in-cheek baby to the next level. Bad Whoremoans riffs are very much reminiscent of The Undead, but way more complex. Think Tesco Vee’s “Meatmen”, but with more melody.
On "Live at Clash Bar", song subjects tackle movies, i.e. Death Wish, Evil Dead “Chainsaw Hand”, and the rightful disapproval of the 2016 Ghostbusters, in “Harold Ramis Is Turning In His Grave”, while “Delivering the Male” reads like a bad porno. Seriously though, except for Melissa McCarthy who is hilarious, (Youtube: "This Is 40 credits scene", right now!) has Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon or Leslie Jones ever been funny?
I’m not familiar with the Clash Bar, (Clifton, NJ) but its soundboard does a surprisingly good job, capturing live music. While I enjoyed listening to this live record, I prefer their more melodic album, “Bad Whoremoans in 3D” from 2013. Anything that reminds me of British Columbia’s “Gob” is fine by me.
