Arm’s Length Share New Single “The Weight” and Announce Tour

Canadian indie band Arm’s Length has just dropped a new single called “The Weight,” the final release before their new album There’s A Whole New World Out There, which arrives May 16 on Pure Noise Records. The group also announced a spring headline tour that begins May 2 in Columbus, Ohio, with special album release shows scheduled in Chicago, Cleveland, Toronto, Philadelphia, and New York City.

“The Weight” is one of the band’s most personal songs yet. Singer and guitarist Allen Steinberg says it was written about eating disorders and the wish to feel small and invisible. “Sometimes I want to be so small I disappear,” Steinberg shares, explaining the emotions behind the lyrics. The track follows earlier singles “Funny Face” and “You Ominously End,” both of which received praise from major music outlets.

The new album continues the themes found in their debut Never Before Seen, Never Again Found, with lyrics that focus on mental health, grief, love, and healing. The songs are full of powerful emotion and honest storytelling. Produced by Anton DeLost, who has worked with the band before, the album also includes string and piano parts, bringing new textures to the band’s raw and melodic sound.

Most of the album’s lyrics were written by Steinberg during a difficult time in his life. He says it was the most mentally challenging period he has ever experienced. Writing the songs helped him process those feelings, and the result is an album that feels both intense and real.

Fans got to learn more during a Reddit AMA with Steinberg earlier this week. The band is also getting attention from outlets like Alternative Press, Brooklyn Vegan, and Stereogum, with many calling their new album one of the most anticipated indie rock releases this spring.

Arm’s Length has shown growth while staying true to their emotional and guitar-driven sound. Their ability to take personal struggles and turn them into thoughtful songs makes them an important voice in today’s alternative scene. This new album feels like a major step forward for a band that clearly has something meaningful to say.
