American Ocelot Return with Twin Singles “Dropped” and “Invisible Lines”

Boston alt-indie quartet American Ocelot are back with their first new music since their 2024 debut EP, unveiling a double release in the form of “Dropped” and “Invisible Lines.” The two tracks arrive as a tightly paired statement, showcasing a band leaning harder into shimmering guitars, punchy rhythms, and harmony-rich hooks.

Both songs carry an upbeat new wave and post-punk glow, drawing from the bright urgency of ’80s guitar pop while keeping their sound rooted in modern indie rock. Recorded with David Minehan at Woolly Mammoth Studio in Waltham, the singles feel crisp and immediate, capturing the band’s live energy with clarity and drive.

“Dropped” surges forward on a propulsive rhythm and ringing guitar lines, pairing infectious vocal harmonies with weightier themes. Beneath its bright exterior, the song wrestles with life’s unpredictability and the freedom that can come from accepting it. A soaring guitar solo pushes the track into full throttle, balancing introspection with release.

“Invisible Lines” moves with similar melodic confidence but digs into more personal territory. Built on tumbling riffs and layered vocals, the track explores complicated family dynamics and emotional distance, transforming a difficult backstory into something catchy and cathartic. The contrast between its buoyant arrangement and serious lyrical core gives it depth without sacrificing momentum.

Fronted by vocalist, keyboardist, and rhythm guitarist Joanie Lynch, American Ocelot thrive on camaraderie. Joined by Kurt James on percussion, Kevin James on lead guitar, and Charlie Sullivan on bass, the band operate less like a solitary act and more like a tight-knit collective. That chemistry is central to their sound, especially in the stacked harmonies and locked-in instrumentation that define both new singles.

The band marked the release with a celebratory hometown show at The Middle East in Cambridge, sharing the stage with friends Girl with a Hawk, Happy Little Clouds, and Galaxy Cake. It was a fitting launch for a band that sees community as part of its identity.

With “Dropped” and “Invisible Lines,” American Ocelot sharpen their sound without losing their warmth. The twin singles signal a confident new chapter, one built on melody, momentum, and a deep love for the Boston music scene.
