Boise psych-rock band AKA BELLE blend cosmic themes, live recording energy, and vintage influences across their newly released double album.
Boise, Idaho psych-rock group AKA BELLE have released their new double album All Time is Now, Now is All You Have + The Time for Love is Always Now through Moon Ruins Records, continuing the band’s rise within the Pacific Northwest underground music scene.
The release combines a full album of new material with a second collection made up of songs that were previously only available online. Across the project, AKA BELLE fuse psychedelic rock, garage rock, folk, blues, and tropicalia inspired sounds into a vibrant and theatrical listening experience.
The band recorded the album in Boise, Idaho and La Grande, Oregon using a fully live process. Instruments were tracked together in single takes before the members gathered to record vocals live as a group. That method gives the songs an energetic and human feeling that mirrors the atmosphere of the band’s live performances.
AKA BELLE was formed by married songwriters Catherine and Sam Merrick alongside longtime friends Anthony Mulparry and Jake Stigers. Christine Nygard later joined the lineup after first seeing the band perform as a teenager. Together, the group has become known for immersive concerts filled with layered harmonies, percussion, theremin, vibraphone, and swirling psychedelic textures.
Songs like “Radiant,” “Transmission ’74,” “Raise Power,” and “The Envy of Venus” explore themes of identity, connection, uncertainty, and the natural world through dreamy imagery and protest minded songwriting. Other moments on the album lean into playful storytelling and surreal ideas, giving the project a colorful personality throughout.
The album’s visual presentation was also an important part of the release. Alongside its bright cover art, the record received a marbled vinyl pressing designed to feel like a full artistic package rather than simply a music release.
Veterans of the Boise scene, AKA BELLE have performed at every Treefort Music Festival and shared stages with a range of respected underground rock acts over the years. With this latest release, the band continue sharpening their distinct blend of cosmic psych-rock and experimental pop.
