JATK Confront Modern Exhaustion on Frenzied New Single “Feel Today!”

Boston power-pop outfit JATK return with their first new music in three years, pairing noisy guitars and existential anxiety with an unexpected burst of hope.

Boston alternative rock band JATK have released their new single “Feel Today!,” a restless blend of power pop, distorted guitars and theatrical arrangements that marks the group's first new music in three years.

Led by songwriter Matt Jatkola, the track introduces the band's forthcoming sophomore album, Fast But in Slow Motion, scheduled for release in spring 2027. The record follows their 2022 debut, Shut Up and Be the Light.

“Feel Today!” explores the exhaustion of navigating modern life, confronting feelings of isolation, apathy and frustration without completely surrendering to them.

“It's about feeling apathetic, uninspired, alone, and tired in a world that takes, expects, and doesn't always give much back,” Jatkola explains.

Musically, the song channels that frustration through frantic rhythms, buzzing guitars and an anthemic chorus. Midway through, however, its noisy momentum gives way to a quieter passage featuring keyboards and live strings, shifting the song toward a more hopeful outlook before returning to its explosive conclusion.

The arrangement highlights a more collaborative approach for JATK. While their debut album was largely assembled remotely during the pandemic, the new material emphasizes the chemistry of a consistent five-piece lineup featuring Jatkola, Megan DiSciscio, Bryan Mastergeorge, Evan Murphy and Kiel Szivos.

DiSciscio also arranged the song's strings, contributing viola alongside violinist Alexandra Zablotsky and cellist Eden Rayz.

Recorded across several Massachusetts studios and mixed by Benny Grotto at Mad Oak Studios in Allston, “Feel Today!” balances deliberately rough textures with more elaborate production.

The single arrives as part of a three-track release that also includes an instrumental passage titled “Feel Today! (Strings & Keys)” and a cover of David Bowie's “I'm Deranged,” previously recorded for Mint 400 Records' Sound & Vision (The Songs Of David Bowie) compilation.

A music video directed by Jackson Pollaro, featuring performances filmed at Bancroft's Castle in Groton, Massachusetts, is scheduled for October 21.

“Feel Today!” is available now, with Fast But in Slow Motion expected in spring 2027.
