Boston art-rock singer-songwriter Effi blends expressive guitars, dramatic strings and Greek musical influences on a deeply personal new single.
Boston-based singer-songwriter Effi has released her latest single, “Soul Lovers (Quartet),” out now through Revivalhouse Records. Blending art-rock with an expressive string ensemble, the track explores longing, memory and the search for something that makes us feel complete.
Drawing inspiration from ancient Greek philosophy, the song examines the idea that people spend their lives searching for a missing part of themselves. For Effi, that longing extends beyond romantic relationships to include family, belonging and the desire to return to places and feelings that time has left behind.
What began as a song about romantic heartbreak gradually evolved into a broader reflection on the human experience.
“It's about the longing we all have,” Effi explains. “Time moves forward, places change, people change, and you can't go back.”
Musically, “Soul Lovers (Quartet)” combines Effi's guitarwork and distinctive vocal delivery with a full band and string quartet. Its shifting dynamics and 6/8 rhythm reflect her wide-ranging influences, which include Greek rembetiko, blues, classic rock and traditional Greek vocal styles.
The recording features violinists Onur Dilişen, Rohan Gregory and Jacqui Armbruster alongside cellist Daniel Chouinard, with Fabio Pirozzolo on drums, Mike Rivard on bass and Raleigh Green on guitar.
Recorded at Chillhouse Studios in Charlestown, Massachusetts, the single was produced by Effi and Patrick Hanlin, with mixing and mastering handled by Hanlin and James Zaner.
The quartet arrangement developed organically during the sessions, with the string musicians contributing their own ideas rather than following a fully written arrangement.
A former chemist with deep connections to her Greek heritage, Effi approaches songwriting through experimentation, combining traditional influences with modern rock instrumentation.
“Soul Lovers (Quartet)” marks the beginning of a new series of releases, with additional music planned for later in 2026 and throughout 2027.
The single is available now through Revivalhouse Records, alongside a live performance video recorded at Chillhouse Studios.
