The Meffs Ask “Where Did It All Go Wrong?” on Fierce New Single

Essex punk duo The Meffs confront environmental destruction and a cycle of repeated mistakes on “Where Did It All Go Wrong?,” from their new album, Business.

The Meffs are asking some uncomfortable questions on “Where Did It All Go Wrong?,” a frantic new blast of punk from their latest album, Business.

The Essex duo of Lily Hopkins on guitar and vocals and Lewis Copsey on drums and backing vocals approach the track with their usual urgency, combining punk, post-hardcore and noisy alt-rock with a message rooted in frustration over humanity’s relationship with the planet.

According to the band, the song centers on a basic contradiction: people understand their own mortality while continuing to damage the world they depend on. “Where Did It All Go Wrong?” turns that idea into a call for change, driven by the fear that the same destructive patterns continue repeating themselves.

That sense of frustration runs throughout Business, an 11-track album produced by Dan Weller and released through FLG. The record finds The Meffs taking on politics, work, war, health and the music industry without sacrificing the frantic energy that has become central to their sound.

Elsewhere, “Business” turns its attention toward problems within the music industry, while “Disorder (Wake Up)” takes a broader look at the state of the world. The album also makes room for more personal territory, with “Like Gravity” exploring self-deprecation and “Love To Lose” leaning into the duo’s fast, immediate side.

For The Meffs, those subjects are all connected by the larger idea behind the album: the forces shaping everyday life are difficult to separate from one another. Rather than narrowing their focus, Business turns that frustration into fuel.

“Where Did It All Go Wrong?” captures that approach in particularly direct form. Loud, fast and restless, it gives The Meffs a vehicle for asking how much damage people are willing to accept before something finally changes.
