Marseille trio GAMI trade their trip-hop foundations for a rush of new wave and post-punk on “Anymore,” the latest preview of their forthcoming debut album, Underneath.
Marseille trio GAMI have released “Anymore,” a tense and introspective new single from their debut album Underneath, due October 23 via B-Side Prod.
Featuring members of Avee Mana and 1003, GAMI have built their sound around a collision of trip-hop and industrial rock, drawing comparisons to acts like Massive Attack and The Kills. “Anymore,” however, pushes the band somewhere different, bringing new wave and post-punk influences to the foreground.
Composed and produced by guitarist Rémi Bernard, the track pairs a melodic guitar line and synths with David Benzazon’s restless drumming. Capucine Trotobas handles lead vocals alongside bass and keyboards, while Bernard’s higher backing vocals gradually become more prominent as the song progresses.
The result carries traces of The Cure and New Order while preserving the immersive atmosphere at the center of GAMI’s music. Rather than abandoning the moodiness of their earlier material, “Anymore” simply gives it more momentum.
That tension also runs through Trotobas’ lyrics. The song explores the feeling of being trapped alone with your thoughts and recognizing the warning signs of slipping back toward destructive patterns. Attempts to maintain control become their own internal struggle, leaving the narrator caught between confronting old demons and fearing they may become overwhelming again.
Those ideas connect directly to Underneath, an album centered on hypersensitivity, internal experience and the fleeting emotions that accompany them.
With “Anymore,” GAMI offer a glimpse at just how far that concept can stretch musically. The trio’s trip-hop roots remain part of the foundation, but the single opens another path into Underneath, using post-punk urgency to give its psychological unease a sharper pulse.
