Recollection Look Back Without Losing Themselves on Intrusive Thoughts

Recollection bridge hardcore punk and indie rock while exploring memory, vulnerability and growing older on their new EP, Intrusive Thoughts.

Recollection have released their new EP Intrusive Thoughts through DAZE, a four-song collection that looks backward without getting trapped in the past.

Built around members whose friendships stretch back more than two decades, Recollection use the EP to explore how memories and emotions change as people grow older. Vocalist Josh Hynes describes the band as a space where its members can approach vulnerability with fewer defenses than they might have carried earlier in life, turning both positive and difficult experiences into songs.

Musically, Intrusive Thoughts occupies a space between hardcore punk and indie rock. Assertive vocals and punchy rhythms give the songs weight, while jangly guitars and direct melodic hooks pull them toward a more reflective sound.

Each of the EP’s four tracks approaches that idea from a different angle. Opener “Lost In Translation” deals with trying to find a place in the modern world, while “Turntable” focuses on the memories that become permanently attached to certain songs. The title track brings Hynes together with his wife Cherish for vocal harmonies, adding another personal connection to a record already shaped by long relationships.

Closing track “Son” provides the EP’s most urgent emotional moment, confronting the importance of holding onto a sense of self through changing circumstances.

The band’s name becomes particularly fitting across these songs. Rather than treating nostalgia as simple comfort, Recollection examine the experiences that continue to follow people through different stages of their lives, and what those memories mean from a distance.

Produced and mixed by Taylor Young at The Pit, with additional tracking by Eric Sauter at Black Heart Sound, Intrusive Thoughts turns that reflection into something immediate: four compact songs about friendship, memory and allowing yourself to change without losing sight of who you have been.
