Lorg, the solo project of SALES co-creator L Morgan, turns heartache, uncertainty and artistic independence into the carefully constructed debut album I Fell For Fantasy.
After years creating music as part of SALES, L Morgan steps fully into their own world as Lorg with I Fell For Fantasy, their debut solo album, out now.
Co-produced by Lorg and Adam McDaniel, whose credits include Angel Olsen, Wednesday and Animal Collective, the record was created between Drop of Sun Studios in Asheville and Lorg’s home studio. The result grew from a period of major artistic transition, with Lorg learning how to embrace collaboration without sacrificing the independence that had shaped their earlier work.
Album opener “Cowboy Songs” captures that tension beautifully. Beginning with a simple, hypnotic loop and an improvised vocal performance, the track balances melancholy against an almost weightless melodic warmth. Lorg initially approached the song as an exercise in stripped-down singer-songwriter craft, but its eventual studio evolution helped open the door to a more collaborative way of recording.
Dave Hartley of The War on Drugs and Nightlands contributes bass to the track, while Steven Perez of Pedazo De Carne Con Ojo adds shaker. Those understated additions expand the song without disturbing its intimate core, allowing its circular construction to mirror the emotional patterns running through the lyrics.
That push between vulnerability and experimentation sits at the heart of I Fell For Fantasy. The album represents both a creative departure and a personal reckoning, built from the uncomfortable process of acknowledging feelings that are easier to bury than articulate.
Previously released singles “Marathonia” and “Hall of Your Heart” offered early glimpses into the record’s dreamy, meticulously shaped atmosphere, while “Cowboy Songs” provides an especially revealing entry point into the larger journey.
Now based in New York City, Lorg emerges from I Fell For Fantasy with a solo identity that feels deliberately handcrafted rather than simply detached from their previous work. It’s a record about following an uncertain path until it begins to look unmistakably like your own.
