Blums Announces Debut Album Sunk Cost Fantasy, Shares New Single “Cashout”

New York City artist Blums has announced her debut album, Sunk Cost Fantasy, arriving August 7 through Take Care Records, alongside the release of its powerful lead single, “Cashout.”

New York City songwriter and musician Blums, the project of Kelsea Feder, has announced her debut album, Sunk Cost Fantasy, which will arrive on August 7 through Take Care Records. Alongside the announcement, Blums has released the album's lead single, “Cashout,” accompanied by an official music video.

“Cashout” blends art-pop, indie rock, and electronic influences into an energetic track driven by pulsing synths, layered vocals, and dynamic percussion. The song explores emotional cycles, reflecting on painful memories while searching for a sense of release and healing. As the arrangement builds, soaring vocal layers and powerful rhythms mirror the tension between living in the present and confronting the past.

The official music video expands on those themes through striking visual storytelling. Directed by Ella Sinskey and Colter Fellows, the video follows Feder in a surreal, dreamlike setting that shifts between fantasy and reality. Inspired by the energy of classic bar dance scenes, the visual presents anger and emotional release as sources of personal strength while bringing long-held creative ideas to life.

“Cashout” follows Blums' debut single, “Sinking/Soaring,” which introduced listeners to the project's blend of atmospheric songwriting and adventurous production. Together, the two songs offer an early look at the emotional and sonic direction of Sunk Cost Fantasy.

Written over several years and co-produced with Kirk Palsma, the album represents the culmination of nearly a decade of songwriting and artistic development. Drawing from art-pop, singer-songwriter traditions, and experimental production, Sunk Cost Fantasy combines layered instrumentation with unexpected textures while remaining rooted in memorable melodies.

The 11-track record includes “Sinking/Soaring,” “Cashout,” “Still,” “Celsius,” “Side of the Road,” “Triple A (as a healer),” “Judy,” “Further Away,” and “Unspent.” Throughout the album, Blums explores themes of memory, identity, emotional healing, and breaking free from repeating patterns.

Known for memorable live performances around New York City, Blums has shared stages with artists including May Rio, Bella Litsa, Nyxy Nyx, and others while steadily building a following within the city's independent music scene.

With “Cashout,” Blums offers a powerful introduction to Sunk Cost Fantasy, setting the stage for a debut album that promises to blend ambitious songwriting, bold production, and emotionally honest storytelling when it arrives this August.
