Seattle artist Shelby Natasha explores love, loss, and identity through a soft and layered alt-folk sound on her new EP.
Seattle based alt folk songwriter Shelby Natasha is set to release her new EP It Was Mine on April 3 2026. The project blends Chinese folk tones lo fi textures and ambient alt folk moods into a soft yet layered sound that reflects her life between cultures. Across five tracks Natasha explores love grief memory and growth through detailed songwriting and textured arrangements.
The EP opens with Salmon Song and Spring which lean into earthy guitar lines and light percussion. Spring stands out as a folk driven piece about finding love during a time of collapse. The track features bird sounds recorded by Natasha while on tour adding a natural field recording feel to the mix.
Pirates follows with a more emotional tone written in memory of her brother Sean who died after a long struggle with addiction. The song includes home audio clips from their childhood and layered vocal harmonies that echo classic soul influences giving the track a warm yet aching depth.
The title track It Was Mine brings in guzheng upright bass cello guitar and drums to build a dreamy lo fi blend. Written as a reflection from the end of life the song focuses on legacy and self image shaped by family and memory. Natasha wrote it after reading Violeta which helped her process the loss of her grandmother.
The Three Of Us closes the EP with a slow and layered track about watching love fade. Strings harmonies and guzheng lines move together to create a distant and emotional space.
Shelby Natasha has built a name in the Seattle scene through festival sets and support shows while shaping a sound that mixes Chinese folk roots with modern alt folk and lo fi production. It Was Mine continues that path with a focused and personal release.
The EP will be available on digital platforms and will be supported by upcoming live dates in Seattle Toronto and at the Timber outdoor event. With its blend of ambient textures soft dynamics and cultural detail the project marks a clear step forward in Natasha’s evolving alt folk style overall impact.
