Oakland band blend deathrock roots with dream pop and cold wave textures on new album
Oakland-based post-punk band FALSE FIGURE return with Incarnate, a new full-length album released March 1, 2026. The record builds on the band’s established sound while pushing into a broader sonic space shaped by gothic rock, dream pop, and cold wave influences.
Across the album, FALSE FIGURE explore themes tied to personal conflict and wider instability. Tracks like “Favorite Game” focus on strained relationships and destructive patterns, while “Original Sin” shifts toward reflection within a chaotic and uncertain world. Elsewhere, “Say Nothing” introduces a more direct and urgent tone, adding intensity to the record’s emotional range.
Rather than staying locked into one mood, Incarnate moves quickly between tension and release. Songs build through dense, driving sections before opening into more melodic and atmospheric moments. This structure gives the album a steady flow, avoiding repetition while still maintaining a cohesive identity.
The band’s sound has evolved since their earlier work in the Bay Area deathrock scene.
