Boston’s eight-piece alt-country band return with a warm, harmony-rich preview of their upcoming album Hey Yeah Hey.
Boston alt-country and Americana ensemble Other Brother Darryl release their new single “Peaceful Alibi” today, March 20, offering the first glimpse into their forthcoming sophomore album Hey Yeah Hey, due in June.
Following the momentum of last year’s Roll Shine Roll — which earned the band two Boston Music Award nominations after their 2024 win for Country Artist of the Year — “Peaceful Alibi” signals both continuity and growth. The track leans into the group’s signature cosmic canyon rock sound: layered harmonies, warm acoustic strums, organ swells, and a steady rhythm section that feels both grounded and expansive.
At its core, the song reflects on perseverance. Rather than searching for an easier way around life’s obstacles, the band explores the value of confronting them head-on. The arrangement unfolds patiently, building from a reflective verse into a wide, reassuring chorus that feels earned rather than forced. There’s a late-winter atmosphere to the track — a sense of pushing through cold, gray days while trusting that brighter skies are ahead.
“Peaceful Alibi” was produced, recorded, and mixed by Dan Nicklin at Henley Row Studios in Stoneham, Massachusetts, and mastered by Brian Charles at Rare Signals in Cambridge. The single artwork, designed by drummer Dan Cederholm, pairs a snow-covered shoreline with the band’s updated logo, visually echoing the song’s quiet resilience.
The track’s origins date back to a soundcheck jam at the Lizard Lounge during the band’s sold-out album release show last year. Unlike their debut — which took years to shape and carried the weight of loss following the passing of co-founder Dave Mirabella — Hey Yeah Hey emerged quickly, largely written as a collective effort over the span of about a month. The result feels unified, collaborative, and rooted in camaraderie.
Other Brother Darryl bring “Peaceful Alibi” to the stage at Cambridge’s Lizard Lounge on March 27, followed by spring appearances at The Town and The City Festival in Lowell and the New England Americana Festival in Medfield.
