Natalie Jane Hill’s new album Hopeful Woman is out now via Dear Life Records, marking a graceful next chapter for the Texas-born, North Carolina-based songwriter. Alongside the album’s release, Hill has shared the video for “I Thought Love Meant,” filmed with Spencer Kelly at Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuge in Eastern North Carolina. The visual mirrors the record’s tone—quiet, intimate, and grounded in the natural world.
Hopeful Woman unfolds through small, deliberate songs that feel lived-in rather than grand. Hill writes about ordinary rooms, shifting relationships, and the slow, internal work of change. The album was recorded live in two sessions, first in Lockhart, Texas, and later in Western North Carolina. Hill worked with a tight group of collaborators who bring warmth and restraint to the arrangements. Pedal steel, cello, flute, and layered strings drift through the songs without overwhelming them. Multi-instrumentalist Mat Davidson plays a central role across the album, adding subtle textures that expand the sound while keeping it anchored.
Hill’s voice remains the focal point. Clear and steady, it carries both fragility and resolve. Her delivery feels close to the ground, rooted and unforced, guiding the listener through songs that value patience over drama. Tracks like “Oranges,” “Never Left Me,” and “Blue is the Color of My Sun” show how gently the record builds its emotional weight.
To support the release, Hill will tour the US with Friendship before heading to the UK in support of Ray LaMontagne.
