MEMORIALS, the duo made up of Electrelane frontwoman Verity Susman and Wire guitarist Matthew Simms, have announced a new album titled All Clouds Bring Not Rain. The record will be released on March 27 through Fire Records. It will be available digitally, on CD, and on several limited vinyl editions, including orange, lemon, and a special lime bundle with art prints and extras.
Along with the album announcement, MEMORIALS have shared the lead single “Cut Glass Hammer,” which arrives with a new music video. The track premiered with Magnet Magazine and is now streaming across all major platforms. The song offers an early look at the band’s art-pop and psych-rock approach, built around repeating structures, modular synths, and a steady sense of tension.
All Clouds Bring Not Rain was recorded mostly in a barn studio located deep in the woods of southwestern France. The setting played a major role in shaping the album, giving the duo space to focus fully on writing and recording. The album was written, performed, recorded, and mixed entirely by Susman and Simms, making it a tightly controlled and personal project.
The band’s recording process focused on capturing real sounds in real spaces. To do this, they worked in several studios to access specific instruments, including a harpsichord at 4AD’s London studio and a vibraphone and vintage Leslie speaker at Press Play, the studio of Stereolab drummer Andy Ramsay. This hands-on approach reflects their interest in older recording methods and limited equipment.
Susman’s vocals are central throughout the album, moving between soft and forceful tones while staying clear and direct. Simms’ production choices add texture through tape loops, drones, and unexpected shifts. This can be heard on tracks like “Wildly Remote,” which blends gentle melodies with experimental sounds, and “Bell Miner,” which includes field recordings of birds captured while the band toured Australia.
Other songs explore different styles within the same experimental space. “In The Weeds” mixes dub and folk, while “Dropped Down The Well” has already become a strong part of the band’s live set. “Mediocre Demon” leans into bass-driven rhythms with vibraphone and layered vocals.
Following work on a documentary soundtrack about Kate Bush and a U.S. tour with Stereolab, MEMORIALS return with an album that balances classic songwriting with adventurous production. EU and UK tour dates have also been announced in support of the release.
