Violets Announce Debut EP and Share New Single "The Tower"

Chicago’s punk scene has a new force with Violets, a band featuring members of Naked Raygun, The Methadones, and Blood People. Their debut, self-titled EP is set for release on May 2, and they’ve just dropped their first single and video, "The Tower." While their backgrounds are rooted in classic punk, Violets are shaping something entirely their own.

The EP delivers a mix of sounds that stretch beyond their past projects. "The Tower" kicks things off with an intense, driving rhythm and anthemic energy, while the second single, "Eras," takes a darker approach, reflecting on life’s repeating cycles. Another standout track, "Staring at the Ceiling," slows things down with layers of fuzzed-out guitars, revealing a different side to the band. “There’s a theme of interweaving realities,” says guitarist/vocalist Aly Jados. “Lyrically and musically, we’re exploring two different dimensions.”

To bring their vision to life, Violets worked with Dan Precision of 88 Fingers Louie at Bombshelter Studios. Acting as both producer and engineer, Precision helped shape the EP’s sharp yet dynamic sound. "Dan understood what we were going for right away," says guitarist Simon Lamb. "He took these songs to a place we didn’t expect.”

Violets have already made their live debut alongside The Lawrence Arms and will perform at Chicago’s Chop Shop on March 1. The band is focused on what’s next, though they’re taking a loose and natural approach. “We’re just doing whatever feels right, and so far, that’s worked out well for us,” says guitarist Bill Stephens. “We don’t sound like our old bands, and that’s the point.”

With a lineup rounded out by drummer Michael Soucy and bassist/vocalist Fritz Doreza, Violets have spent years fine-tuning their sound. The result is something heavy yet melodic, aggressive yet thoughtful. Their music carries shades of Pixies and Queens of the Stone Age but stands firmly on its own.

Violets prove that experience doesn’t mean playing it safe. Their debut EP is a refreshing take on rock that embraces big riffs, strong hooks, and a fearless attitude. It’s a must-hear for fans of dynamic, forward-thinking punk.
