Pretty Rude Signs to SideOneDummy, Releases New Single "Debbie & Lynn"

Brooklyn-based indie rock band Pretty Rude is excited to announce that they’ve signed to the well-known record label SideOneDummy. The band will release their debut album in May, which was produced by Pretty Rude and mixed by Jake Sinclair (Weezer's White Album). The record is set to showcase their unique sound and raw energy.

In anticipation of the album, the band has shared their new single, "Debbie & Lynn," along with its official music video, shot and edited by Luke LeCount. The song is inspired by a Billy Collins poem titled "Traveling Alone" and reflects the band's introspective style. Frontman James Palko explains that "Debbie & Lynn" is about carrying personal baggage while trying to move forward. The song touches on how people can fall into self-destructive habits and repeats the cycle unless they're careful.

Pretty Rude’s debut album is an ambitious statement that draws on a wide range of influences. From the catchy, feel-good pop-rock of Randy Newman and The Beach Boys to the bold, energetic sounds of early Queen, the band blends these influences with the raw, post-grunge power of Weezer and Joyce Manor. This mix results in a sound that’s both timeless and fresh. The single "Debbie & Lynn" perfectly captures this energy, combining thoughtful lyricism with high-octane, attitude-filled rock. The band's diverse influences are not only apparent in their music but also in their approach to the creative process, reflecting both the challenges and rewards of starting something new in uncertain times.

Formed during the early days of the pandemic, Pretty Rude began as an online project. Palko, whose previous bands included Taking Meds and Perspective, a lovely hand to hold, was looking for an outlet after those bands ended. Working with bandmate Matt Cook turned the project into a full band, and their chemistry is evident on this album. Pretty Rude is a band to watch. Their mix of thoughtful lyrics, raw energy, and eclectic influences promises an exciting debut album.
