Pluto Is A Planet release debut shoegaze record via Shore Dive Records!

So I can’t lie, since I joined “Blood Makes Noise” it’s been nothing but bangers that have slid across my virtual desk.  So much so that I have quietly been waiting for the other shoe to drop. I assume at some point Joe would send me something that would be “ok” and I’d be underwhelmed by it or something terrible that I would just say “I’m good, pass it to someone else” because I know I’d write a not so great review for it.

That has yet to happen, as “Pluto is a planet” has continued that upward trend. I can’t explain how much the shoe-gaze genre has my undying love.  Especially when a band captures that 90s - early 2000s style that harkens back to a simpler yet under appreciated time for me. If I ever got to a level where someone made a movie about my life and they need to capture the era of young KL coming into his own in college then overseas but didn’t have the money to get Massive Attack, Royksopp, Radiohead or portishead, they could capture that feel with “Pluto is a planet” easily.

From the album cover which reminds me of Muse’s album cover for “The second law” to my favorite song on the album “Stand Behind”, it genuinely gave me chills as it reminded me a simpler time of stumbling through my youth.

Honestly ,”Stand Behind” stands out to me (pun intended) mostly because the beginning cords and chorus sound eerily similar to the The Thompson Twins hit “Hold me Now”but modern .

I LOVE THE THOMPSON TWINS and anything remotely associated with that second British Invasion btw

“Binary” is easily one of the best opening tracks ( and my other favorite track)  I have heard all year. This includes bands I represent, work with and any other bands reviewed on this site, hands down. It’s the modern day  “Smiths” sound that makes me love Johnny Marr more and  makes me wish Morrrisey wasn’t such a goddamn racist douche bag.

The album is exceptionally produced , tracked and has easily my favorite production of ALL of the albums or singles I have reviewed. Top to bottom it is an exceptionally strong contender for “best album should hear ASAP” list.

I hope I hear more from these guys very soon because “Dying Every Second” will be in heavy rotation for a while for me.
