+/- {Plus/Minus} Return with Propulsive Energy on "Further Afield"

After a decade-long hiatus, indie rock pioneers +/- {Plus/Minus} are back with a bang, set to release their highly anticipated album "Further Afield" on May 31 via Ernest Jenning Record Co. The band, known for their blend of futuristic pop, electronic elements, and rock instrumentation, showcases a renewed vigor on their sixth full-length LP.

Lead single "Borrowed Time" sets the stage for the album's sonic journey, weaving sparse synth-driven melodies with frenetic pop sensibilities. Exploring themes of resentment within relationships, the track demonstrates +/- {Plus/Minus}'s ability to craft catchy hooks while delving into darker lyrical territory.

Accompanying the single is a visually captivating DIY video, shot on a smartphone in near darkness using Astrophotography mode. Each four-minute take yields just one second of footage, resulting in a surreal and mesmerizing visual experience that perfectly complements the song's ethereal vibe.

In a recent statement, band member Patrick Ramos shed light on the creative process behind "Borrowed Time," revealing how experimentation with the Moog Matriarch synthesizer laid the foundation for the track's distinctive sound. The band's penchant for innovation is further evidenced by their incorporation of unconventional elements throughout the album, including AI-generated strings, high school choir harmonies, and the endearing voice of drummer Chris Deaner's grandfather.

Beyond the music, +/- {Plus/Minus} continues to push artistic boundaries with a series of band-created videos accompanying the album release. From surreal loops shot in darkness to epic multi-section narratives, each video offers a unique glimpse into the band's creative universe.

With "Further Afield," +/- {Plus/Minus} proves that their pioneering spirit remains as strong as ever. As they gear up for a string of Brooklyn shows, including a record release extravaganza at Union Pool on June 1, fans can expect a captivating live experience that mirrors the band's eclectic and dynamic sound.

+/- {Plus/Minus} stands tall as a beacon of innovation, reminding us that great art knows no bounds. "Further Afield" is not just an album—it's a testament to the enduring power of creativity and the boundless possibilities of sound.
