Paitra has released her debut EP A Universal Feeling, a colorful and emotionally open collection that brings together folk, rock, psychedelic textures, singer-songwriter storytelling, and pop structure. Rather than sticking to one sound, the EP moves freely between moods and styles, reflecting an artist comfortable following instinct and feeling wherever they lead.
Originally from Timmins, Ontario, Paitra’s musical roots are grounded in classic ’70s rock and folk. The influence of layered harmonies, strong melodies, and narrative songwriting runs throughout the EP, but the production keeps everything grounded in the present. Since relocating to Toronto in 2017, she has worked to blend those older influences with modern tones, creating songs that feel familiar without sounding dated.
A Universal Feeling showcases that balance clearly. The EP shifts between quiet, inward moments and brighter, more playful sections, often within the same song. Acoustic elements sit alongside polished arrangements, while subtle psychedelic touches add atmosphere without overwhelming the core melodies. Each track highlights a different part of Paitra’s range, both vocally and emotionally, making the EP feel varied but cohesive.
The project comes after more than a decade of playing in different bands, leading to the launch of Paitra’s solo work in 2023. That experience shows in the confidence of the performances and the clarity of the arrangements. The songs feel intentional but unforced, allowing space for vulnerability, humor, and self-reflection to coexist naturally.
Production on the EP supports that openness. The sound is clean and warm, with enough detail to reward close listening while staying accessible. Soft passages feel intimate rather than fragile, while the more energetic moments carry a relaxed confidence instead of excess polish. The result is music that feels personal without being insular.
A Universal Feeling introduces Paitra as an artist unafraid of range or contrast. By blending classic influences with modern sensibilities, the EP presents a clear creative identity built on curiosity, freedom, and emotional honesty.
