Murals Release Powerful Self-Titled Debut EP on Equal Vision Records

Progressive post-hardcore band Murals have released their first EP today through the long-running New York label Equal Vision Records. The debut is self-titled and features seven songs that show the group’s sharp sound, detailed musicianship, and interest in emotional themes. Murals is made up of Shane Gann on guitar and vocals, Blake Dahlinger on drums, and Tony Bautista on bass and vocals. All three musicians are known for past work in projects such as Hail the Sun, Sufferer, and slenderbodies.

Along with the EP, the band also shared a new music video for the single “black tongue.” The video is now streaming on YouTube and gives listeners another view into the group’s dark and expressive style. Early reactions have been strong. Guitar World selected the track “they’re there” as an “Editor’s Pick,” and Under the Radar praised the band’s heavy riffs, forceful drums, and intense energy.

Murals began taking shape years before this release. In 2015, Gann asked Dahlinger to play drums for a project called Sufferer, which focused on the daily experience of anxiety and depression. Later, Bautista joined Sufferer as the touring bassist. Working together on that project built their musical connection, and when Gann and Dahlinger started developing Murals, they invited Bautista to return. The pandemic eventually shifted Sufferer’s plans, opening space for the trio to explore Murals more fully.

The band describes Murals as more than just a musical project. Their goal is to support people facing struggles and unfair situations in today’s world. They hope their work can inspire progressive action and encourage open conversations. This purpose comes through in their writing, which blends emotional depth with sharp, experimental ideas.

Across the EP, Murals highlight each member’s strengths. Gann and Bautista share vocal duties, giving the songs a dynamic range, while Dahlinger’s tight drumming anchors the group’s rhythmic core. Their combined approach results in music that feels bold, detailed, and full of motion.

Murals’ debut EP is available now through Equal Vision Records, offering listeners a strong first look at a band ready to build its own path.
