Whittier, California’s all-female hard rock trio MOONFUZZ are keeping the spirit of classic rock alive with their latest single, a scorching cover of Budgie’s 1970s proto-metal anthem “Guts.” Released on August 29th, the track captures the band’s signature blend of ferocity, groove, and raw power.
Their version of “Guts” channels the grit and swagger of early heavy rock while giving it a modern edge. Fuzzy guitars, thundering drums, and haunted vocals collide in a storm of pure energy — a reminder that real rock and roll never dies.
“Budgie is one of our favorite bands and a huge inspiration to us,” says guitarist Miranda Viramontes. “Covering ‘Guts’ felt like a way to honor the artists who came before us and to remind people that rock and roll is very much alive.”
Formed in 2016, MOONFUZZ began when Viramontes and drummer Brandi Estrada met in high school and decided to form a band. The lineup solidified in 2018 with the arrival of Heaven Martinez on vocals and bass, completing the group’s powerhouse chemistry. Together, they channel influences from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s to create a sound rooted in heavy rock, proto-metal, and progressive textures.
Viramontes leads with cutting riffs and bold solos, Estrada fuels the backbone with driving percussion, and Martinez ties it all together with melodic, hypnotic bass lines and ghostly vocal work. Their interplay feels instinctive — three musicians united by passion, precision, and a shared devotion to their craft.
MOONFUZZ continue to push their own boundaries with every release, determined to evolve while staying true to their roots. Their dedication to authenticity and unfiltered musicianship makes them one of the most exciting new forces in California’s hard rock underground.
